Located in Chesterfield County, SwimRVA serves the Greater Richmond area as a catalyst for regional aquatics and community-wide focus on water safety, health & fitness, sports tourism and competitive swimming.  We offer swimming lessons, water aerobics, aqua running, water polo, CPR & lifeguard certification courses, masters swimming, warm water therapy pool, land fitness classes, and youth triathlon training.

Pay Rate:  $12.50/hour

*  This position is Full Time hourly

Job purpose

Under the direction of the Director of Programs the Wellness Coordinator will help achieve the following results:

  • Develop a creative and entrepreneurial wellness program
  • Provide a safe, secure and educational wellness experience to SwimRVA members while promoting our brand in the community
  • Impact the overall effectiveness of SwimRVA’s mission to make a healthier, more active RVA
  • Provide the members with quality services; programs and leadership in the wellness area thus helping SwimRVA achieve higher levels of membership retention

Duties and responsibilities

The Wellness Coordinator is a vital part of the SwimRVA Wellness Program. On top of providing the best customer service possible, the Wellness Coordinator will be responsible for developing and planning events and programs to empower SwimRVA members in pursuing their physical health and wellness goals. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Program Instruction (45%)

  • Educates members on safe techniques and guidelines
  • Greets all members and orients new participants
  • Instructs class to the ability level of the members participating
  • Monitors participants through perceived rate of exertion
  • Works with participants to achieve fitness goals
  • Encourages new participants and orients them to class
  • Utilizes schedule source for personal class scheduling and class substitution
  • Complies with all SwimRVA policies and procedures

Administrative (50%)

  • Develops new and innovative programs in the area of health and wellness while targeting seniors, adults, youth and families with an emphasis on member retention
  • Manages all wellness programs including, but not limited to, coordinating fitness classes and programs, fitness assessments, equipment orientations, following new member onboarding best practices, and special events
  • Assists with evaluating wellness instructor’s effectiveness and makes recommendations for training and development
  • Reviews and evaluates class attendance, program enrollment and services provided in the wellness program and communicates the results with the Director of Programs
  • Promotes and implements relationship building and character development in all programming, training and supervision.
  • Ability to track data and write reports

Other (5%)

  • Dresses in appropriate and well maintained attire/uniform while instructing
  • Maintains a positive attitude while working, help wherever needed, work well with co-workers
  • Displays excellent customer service skills
  • Accepts feedback and make necessary corrections
  • Displays appropriate behavior (action and language) around patrons
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks as requested by supervisor
  • Performs any duties given by the Executive Director, Director of Administration, Director of Programs, Director of Operations, and any other staff to help the TEAM

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Ability to work and relate well with people of all age groups
  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology or related area of study preferred or 5+ years related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Ability to work in high stress conditions, use critical thinking, and customer service savvy
  • Must be able to show great customer service to all customers and employees of SwimRVA

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Required

  • Certified group exercise instructor
  • Certified personal trainer
  • CPR and AED for Adult and Child – required
  • American Red Cross First Aid – required

Physical requirements

Lifting of light weights up to 50 pounds and the ability to move accordingly to teach classes

Reports to

Wellness Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Programs.
