Since its founding in 2012, Swim Richmond has been providing the region with swimming lessons, wellness classes, water polo, and other aquatics-based fitness programming. Debbie Kelo, PhD, began her tenure as the Director of Programs for SwimRVA a few months ago and is hoping to broaden the scope of what is currently offered by the organization.
"I've been looking for a way to incorporate sports performance training into program development at Swim RVA," says Kelo. "With Running University, we offer a way for both seasoned athletes and novice runners to increase cardiovascular endurance through cross-training, and a way for injured athletes to recover from injuries and get back to running as quickly as possible."
"The beauty of aqua running is its intense but also forgiving nature," says Kelo. "Athletes can put in hard workouts on consecutive days and stay in peak shape. They can improve their fitness, VO2 max, and lactate threshold without risking injury."
